My name is De-Shaunah Dixon. I am a Board Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner from the sunshine state, Florida. I am licensed in South Carolina and Florida.
I graduated from the Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing at Florida Atlantic University obtaining a dual bachelors degree in Nursing and Sociology. A few years later, I went on to further my education at FAU and obtained a Masters of Science in Nursing specializing in Psychiatric Mental Health.
Growing up I saw little to no education and resources accessible for mental health services in my community. Many of my loved ones suffered in silence because Mental Illness was seen as a taboo subject and it was never taught in our academics. I am passionate about being a mental health provider and I serve as an advocate for mental health in vulnerable populations/communities. I have experienced first hand how it feels to have limited access to medical services and resources. It is important that my patients feel heard, understood, and comfortable. Utilizing a holistic approach and collaborative care; I work with my patients to develop a therapeutic relationship that allows us to develop an appropriate plan of care that consists of therapy, medication management, and addressing what matters most to the client.
As a progressing professional in healthcare I remain up to date in evidence based practice guidelines. I am currently an active member in the following professional organizations: Florida Nurses Association and the American Psychiatric Nurses Association.
